Pros and Cons Miss World 2013

Miss World is one of beauty contest in the world that has been held for 62 years. This elite contest aims to find the perfect woman with three main criteria that cannot be separated each other. Those are beauty, brain and behavior. Those criteria must be in every contestant because the contestant will be tested not only their appearance but also their intelligent, and how they act which reflect their personality. This purpose of the competition is to create and build the friendship between the contestants from different country and also to build the friendship between the countries in the world because almost all of the countries in the world participate in this contest. This year, Miss World was held in Bali, Indonesia at September, 28th 2013. Indonesia is the first country in the Southeast Asia that became the place to hold this contest. This is a good chance for Indonesia to promote our country and of course the cultures because we know that our country is full of cultures so that is why we are lucky that we have a chance to hold this pageant event.

As a country with the biggest Muslim population, there are pros and contras with this chance. It is not as easy as we think. It’s just like a road which is not always flat but there is always a hole or stone that can block the way. It is the same with this case. Many sides disagree with this event because of it risk to the moral of our people. Some protests came up from the Islamic Hardliners. All Islamic in Indonesia disagree with this pageant even because it is an immoral event. The moral of the young generation will be influenced by the contestants because they will wear bikinis as their clothes of the activities in the beach. Some people also said that this uphold sharia in Indonesia. FPI (Front Pembela Islam) said that they would thwart this beauty contest because doesn’t bring any benefit for us but bad effect instead.

In the other hand, many people agree that Miss World must go on. After some protest, the event was finally held in Bali with the strike security. Many polices were mobilized to guard this competition. People in Bali welcomed the event warmly. By this chance, we can promote our heritage to the world easier. With this opportunity, Indonesian’s tourism objects will be known by people around the world easily. This event will be attended by so many journalists all over the world. As we know, another people only know about Bali, not Indonesia. With this event, people who are involve hopes that Indonesia will be known.

In summary, this contest is very important because it brings many benefits.  By this contest, we can friendship between each country. With the friendship, people can share their experiences such as their country’s achievements that can inspire others to be better. Besides that, we can promote our country so that Indonesia will be known by the cultures in the world and it will increase our income. Indonesia is not Islamic country. That’s why we should hold this event in Indonesia and we don’t need to do a protest because it will not against the law in our country.
